ART KAOHSIUNG 2015
Create the Platform for the Arts of Southeast and Northeast Asia converge
Kaohsiung is located in the center of northeast and southeast Asia. As the second
metropolis in Taiwan, it is awarded with Livable Communities Award endorsed by the
United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and International Association of
Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA). Kaohsiung is recognized as Miami in Taiwan
ART KAOHISUNG was first launched in 2013 and expanded its scale in 2014 in number
of exhibitors and sales amount — from 62 exhibitors in 2013 to 92 exhibitors in 2014 and
twice the sales amount to 2.7 million in 2014. With the participation of eminent galleries
from Japan, Korea, Singapore, H.K., Germany, Swiss, Russia and Vietnam including
Tomio Koyama Gallery, Whitestone Gallery, Sincewell Gallery from Kaohsiung, Soka Art
Gallery from Tainan, Liang Gallery from Taipei, and Aura Gallery, the Collector Plan
tailored by the Committee successfully receiving 300 significant collectors around Taiwan
and achieving a remarkable sales amount with 11,000 visitors. The cooperative projects
with active art fairs in Osaka, Singapore, and Seoul also injects vitality and Internation
al resources to ART KAOHSIUNG.
In 2015, the positioning of ART KAOHSIUNG is the platform where the arts of Southeast
and Northeast Asia converge, where the boundary lines of arts is eliminated and where all
the art forms can be fully realized. Extending from Asia, ART KAOHSIUNG this year
cooperates with art fairs in Cologne, Seoul and Osaka in special curatorial projects in
order to broaden the horizon of art scenes in Taiwan. It is estimated that 110 exhibitors
around Asia, Europe and U.S. will be joining ART KAOHSIUNG 2015. Renowned for its
abundant history of harbor and charm of enthusiastic hospitality, Kaohsiung with guests
around the globe is ready to accomplish the biggest annual art festival in Southern Taiwan.
【Contemporary Art Sector】
Located in the heart of Kaohsiung Bay, Pier-2 Art District combines marine history
and original spirit of warehouse, thus exudes a unique, contemporary nature. In
which Art kaohsiung presents Contemporary Art Sector; an important series of 50
Asian Art Galleries showing Asian contemporary artistic trend.
【Modern & Contemporary Art Sector】
The Modern & Contemporary Art Sector is planned at the Kaohsiung City Suites, for its Western refined elegance, and oriental philosophy character, which provides the visitor a comfortable environment to approach the artwork, and its exquisite atmosphere suits the spirit of "bringing art to life". In view of the successful response last year, this year the section could be expanded to 60 galleries, as to satisfy the iverse orientation of the collectors.
【Kaohsiung Emerging Arts Sector】
Art Kaohsiung offers a platform for emerging arts in Kaohsiung. By inviting the
Kaohsiung Award winner and young artists to participate. The Committee is making
all its effort to filter the applicants, to present the most potential emerging artists,
and to bridge the artists and art industry.
To echo the annual arts industry university forum topic, the Committee will invite
curators or gallerists to curate the international curatorial sector, so as to implement
the objectives of bridging the native arts and international arts. Whilst the core idea
of its content is a close spectacle of Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia.
【Kaohsiung Art Forum】
Since 2015, the Art Kaohsiung has been considered as the bridge between Southeast
Asia and Northeast Asia art worlds. Their artistic dialogue is implemen ted in this
artistic industry-university forum, by inviting Kaohsiung Modern Society, which has
been making industrious and diligent efforts for the local art, to cooperate with the
committee, also with the participation of the art world's important figures and
professionals from the art industries. The sector this year has chosen Japan and
Malaysia as the speakers of the dialogue, the well-known gallery curators and
important industrial professionals from these two countries are invited to exchange
their knowledge, and provide the audience with diversity artistic views.
